<p>One of the common themes of today's political discourse is that the common citizen is ultimately powerless and at the mercy of our government. This month's speaker is living proof that this absolutely untrue.</p>
<p>Luther Weeks has been active for several years in voting integrity issues, civil rights and citizen-lobbying the Connecticut Legislature and the U.S. Congress as a grass roots (unpaid) lobbyist.</p>
<p>Mr. Weeks' efforts in Connecticut contributed to the passage of the paper record law in 2005 and the selection of optical-scan over DRE (touch screen) voting equipment in 2006. Since 2007, he has organized citizen volunteers to observe Connecticut's post-election audits, independently report on those audits, and perform citizen audits of other aspects of the election system. In 2019 he was awarded the Full Tilt Activist Award in honor of the Quixote Foundation by the Election Verification Network.</p>
<p>Since 2012 he has been associated with SecularCT and its predecessors, lobbying the General Assembly and Congress representing the interests of the 40+% of Connecticut voters who are not religious. Issues have included removing God and unconstitutional oaths in our theocratic constitution, medical aid in dying, along with eliminating/blocking illogical, non-science religious oriented laws.</p>
