<p>"She Loves Me" is based on the 1938 play "Parfumerie." A tale of two people who work in a small shop and are constantly at odds with one another, are unaware that they are romantically involved via a lonely-hearts club, writing to each other as "Dear Freind." Several film incarnations of this story are well known ("The Shop Around the Corner" and in the nineties, Nora Ephron's "You've Got Mail"). This version, the Broadway Musical from 1963, is not well known but achieved the status of a "cult" show following its short original run. This production from 1978 by the BBC is stunning and charming and perfect for an early spring afternoon when love is in bloom.</p>

<p>Please join us for a very special Earth Month event when Gary Yohe will tell us what a prominent climate researcher wishes the average person understood about climate change.</p>
<p>Gary Yohe is the Huffington Professor of Economics and Environmental Studies, Emeritus at Wesleyan University. He served as a senior member of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), sharing its 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. His primary research, assessment and communication efforts have been focused on describing the economic and social risks from climate change and elaborating ways to defend against them. He has published over 175 peer-reviewed papers and more than 75 opinion and communication pieces in reputable media outlets. Yohe served as Vice-Chair of the 2014 Third National Climate Assessment in the Obama Administration and on many panels for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine and has testified multiple times before both houses of Congress. He is currently Co-Editor-in-Chief of Climatic Change.</p>
<p>We will start with half an hour of coffee and conversation at 6:30 PM, followed by the main program after brief announcements at 7:00 PM.</p>

<p>Our book for April is <em>The Last Temptation of Christ</em>, the controversial novel by Nikos Kazantzakis.</p>
<p>From Wikipedia: <em>The Last Temptation of Christ</em> (or <em>The Last Temptation</em>) is a historical novel written by Nikos Kazantzakis, first published in its original Greek in 1955 before being translated into English in 1960. The novel depicts the life of Jesus and his struggles with various forms of temptation, including fear, doubt, depression, reluctance, and lust.</p>
<p>Upon its publication, the book was condemned by the Catholic Church and the Greek Orthodox Church; it has since been challenged by numerous Christian groups and conservative organizations. The 1988 film adaptation directed by Martin Scorsese was similarly controversial.</p>
