Born in 1917 , Wyeth was one of the best known artists of the twentieth century. His work was influenced by his father, a well known artist, and preeminent during the Golden Age of American Illustration. His son, Jamie Wyeth, carries on the family tradition to the present. Andrew’s iconic painting " Christina's World " hangs in The Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the story that informs it casts an in depth light on the human condition. Highly successful in the art world of the twentieth century, due in great part to the participation of his wife, Betsy James, the story of Andrew Wyeth, filled with success, tragedy and enigma, is a fascinating one.
We will watch a documentary film on Wyeth, followed by discussion.
